1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 books end of 2015Wow! 34 children finished WNPL’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program in 2015. In this program, families are challenged to read one thousand books together before their child begins kindergarten. It may sound intimidating, but even reading the same book many times counts for a book each time. Families are encouraged to start early and enjoy the trip!

The single most important activity parents and caregivers can do to help children become successful readers is to read aloud to them every day.

WNPL’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten provides reading logs to track progress, reading tips, prizes to children who reach reading milestones, a “1000 Books Wall of Fame” recognition and lots of encouragement and enthusiasm.
