Vacancy Notice - Shelver (14 hours per week)

Rate of Pay:$8.33 per Hour
Immediate Supervisor:Shelving Supervisor
Available Hours:One position, 14 hours per week. Tuesday 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Wednesday 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Friday 2:00 p.m.until 6:00 p.m. Two (2) Saturday per month 1:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Occasional Sundays. This is not a seasonal position. We are looking for someone who can work these hours all during the year. The ideal candidate would also need to have flexibility in scheduling to fill in for days, evenings and weekends as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalency.

  • Must be able to work in team environment.

  • Well developed oral communication skills.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

  • Requires a full range of body motion and ability to move a wheeled book cart with up to 100 lbs. of books or other library materials.

  • Must be able to maintain an exemplary public service attitude.

Responsibilities:

Job Vacancy Notice - Catalog Librarian (37.5 hours per week)

Hours:37.50 Hours per Week

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

  • Master's degree in library/information science from ALA accredited college or university.

  • Awareness of current cataloging standards and practices in all formats.

  • Knowledge of AACR2, RDA, MARC format, Dewey Decimal, GSAFD, Bilindex, and, LC subject headings.

  • Experience with online integrated library systems, OCLC Connexion Client, and Microsoft Office products.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Searches OCLC for MARC records, determines appropriate records, exports bibliographic records, performs description and subject cataloging in accordance with local/national standards and conducts authority control for all headings.

  • For new materials without cataloging copy, creates original MARC format bibliographic records.

  • Maintains the library’s item database, making corrections and adjustments to data as necessary.

  • Maintains authority control of the database and resolves authority issues; builds reports, generates statistics, and performs ongoing database cleanup.

  • Serves in a leadership role for cataloging procedures, questions, and documentation.

  • Receives and evaluates requests from library staff for changes to call number and item level data; answers questions about system functions when they relate to Technical services.

  • Assigns classification and call numbers to all library materials and participates in formal re-cataloging or reclassification projects as necessary.

  • Serves on library committees, as assigned; attends staff, department and other job-related meetings.

  • Keeps up-to-date with cataloging issues, standards and documentation of local cataloging practices & recommends new cataloging procedures.

  • Organizes work according to established priorities, serves as PIC as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
