Job Vacancy Notice - Circulation Supervisor

Circulation Supervisor
Classification:Grade 15
Rate of Pay:$24.21-41.03/hour, Depending on Qualifications
Immediate Supervisor:Deputy Director
Hours:Full-time Exempt Position 37.50 hours per week.
Position Description:The Warren-Newport Public Library District serves a population of approximately 67,000 within a 55-square mile area in northern Illinois. The library has been named as one of the Chicago Tribune’s Top 100 Workplaces three times and has strong community support. In 2013-2014, there were 469,000 visitors who checked out 1.2 million items. The Head of Circulation oversees a strong department with an excellent staff of 34 (including a circulation clerk supervisor and a shelving supervisor) and is a member of the library services and management teams.
Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

  • Four or more years of library related experience.

  • Supervisory experience and/or training.

  • Familiarity with library automation.

  • Strong customer service orientation and excellent communication skills and organizational abilities

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates and manages circulation/shelving functions, including, but not limited to: checkouts, check-ins, reserves and reserve notification, overdues, library card registrations, lost and replacement cards, lost titles, sort/shelve returned materials, shelf reading and shifting shelves.
    Advises deputy director on matters related to the circulation department.

  • Recommends and implements approved goals and objectives for the circulation department, including the annual budget document.

  • Interviews, hires, and orients new department employees.

  • Supervises, trains, and evaluates the circulation clerk supervisor and shelving supervisor.

  • Keeps circulation staff informed of all circulation services policies and procedures; interprets library policy for department employees.

  • Assists circulation desk staff with complex problem solving.

  • Oversees payroll for circulation staff.

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, implements, and evaluates services.

  • Drafts department policies and procedures.

  • Prepares monthly department reports, including compilation of monthly statistics and other reports as requested.

  • Participates as a member of the library services and management teams.

  • Attends and participates in staff, department and professional meetings related to job responsibilities.

  • Staffs the circulation desk when necessary.

  • Coordinates telephone renewals, materials recovery service, and failed notices.

  • In cooperation with the Head of Communications, advertises and promotes library services and supports displays within the library.

  • In cooperation with the Head of Information and Technology Services, monitors/troubleshoots RFID equipment including: mobile circulation station, self-checkout machines, check-out and automated material handling system.

  • Serves as the Person in Charge and participates on library committees and project teams.

  • Maintains knowledge of current new trends and innovations in the field of library circulation efficiency, library automation and library public service.

Circulation Clerk

Circulation Clerk (9 hours per week)

Rate of Pay:$11.11 per Hour
Immediate Supervisor:Circulation Clerk Supervisor
Available Hours:One position, 9 hours per week. Tuesday: 10am-1:00p.m.; Thursday evening: 5:00p.m.-9:00p.m. One (1) Saturday per month: : 9:00a.m.:5:00p.m. and one (1) Sunday per month: 1:00p.m.-5:00p.m. Sunday hours are from Labor Day-Memorial Day
This is not a seasonal position. We are looking for someone who can work these hours all year. The ideal candidate would also need to have flexibility in scheduling to fill in for days, evenings and weekends as needed.

Youth Services Reference Assistant

Youth Services Reference Assistant (14 hours per week)

Available Hours:14.0 hours per week: Tuesday 5:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.; Friday, 10:00a.m-6:00p.m. One Saturday per month 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Occasional Sundays.

We are seeking someone with great customer service skills to share their love of children's literature at our busy Youth Services Desk. The ideal candidate would also need to have flexibility in scheduling to fill in for days, evenings and weekends.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or two years of college or university work.

  • Experience working with children, young adults, and parents.

  • Basic understanding of library resources.

  • Basic understanding of and library automation.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the selection, organization and interpretation of library materials. Refers complex reference or library policy questions to senior staff.

  • Instructs library users in the use of online services, catalogs and reference tools.

  • Places local holds, initiates system-level interlibrary loan transactions, registers patrons for programs and performs other service desk functions.

  • Troubleshoots minor problems of equipment (computers, copiers, etc.).

  • Attends and participates in staff, department and other job-related meetings..

  • Contributes to the library's web presence.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
