Suggestions & Questions from Our Library Users
JUNE 2011
1. It would be nice if there was a specific category/shelf for Classics for DVDs.
Thanks for your suggestion. Because the idea of “classic movies” can
mean different movies to different patrons, this could be a challenging
genre category to establish in our collections. We do have pathfinders
or lists of favorite movies in specific categories available on our “More
Than Just Books” blog. Examples include “Adventure Movies,” “Feel
Good Movies,” “Gangster Movies,” “Otherwise Engaged,” and “Sailing
the Seven Seas (Pirates).” Our Reference staff would be happy to help
you find some of the “classic films” you may be looking for; please stop
by, call or email us for more help.
2. Please bring back the cart of new books outside the Reference Desk – that was
wonderful! The Bundled Books are old and really are not desirable. I miss the
cart.
Good news! The cart of new books that was located next to the
Reference Desk is back in that location. Please note that the books on
this cart have just been processed and prepared for circulation and only
stay on the cart for a brief time before moving to the New Fiction, New
Non-Fiction, and Reference shelves. The New Fiction and New Non-
Fiction shelves are located close to the library entrance and are a great
place to find the newest additions to our collection.
Our Book Bundles are intended to be “impulse” checkouts of favorites
in specific categories and not intended to replace items previously
found on the new book cart. We have gathered several books on
specific subjects from a variety of formats and bundled them up for fast
checkout. Some of the subjects already chosen: “Boss-man, Books
about the Mob;” “Knit One, Purl One;” “Medieval History;” and
“Espionage.” Our Reference Staff would be glad to try to assemble a
bundle for you, if you are interested in a specific topic. Please feel free
to contact the Reference Desk for more help.
3. We need to be able to check out books that are reserved by others in our family
– same household!!! Husbands/wives/children’s cards should be interlinked by
address – or at least minor children to parents!! We are often at the library at
separate times, and carry our own cards. Extremely frustrating not to be able to
pick up books my own minor daughter put on hold just because I don’t have her
card with me – SHE carries it; I have mine, and that should by all rights be a
service you should offer!!
Our current policy does not allow for inter-linking of library cards due to
privacy and confidentiality concerns. As a solution to your problem,
however, I would point out that, since our new library cards have
matching key tags, there is an easy way for you and all parents to pick
up holds for family members by keeping the key tag portions of their
library cards. Please don’t hesitate to approach the staff at the checkout
desk for a demonstration of how this would work.
Thank you for taking the time to help us improve our service to you.
