Engaged and Inclusive

Everyone is Welcome Here, WNPL logo, Warren-Newport Public Library

At the Warren-Newport Public Library, we unequivocally oppose racism in all forms. We stand with those who seek to end systemic racism and bring about positive change in our community. We believe that everyone who walks through our doors is empowered to change their lives for the better, in both big and small ways. Everyone. It is very clear that our commitment to that belief comes with the responsibility to stand up against racism and injustice. This is why it is so vital for us to speak up now.

Words are important, but actions are better. We must listen, speak, learn, and act. Here are some actions we have taken and will continue to develop to prioritize equity, diversity, and inclusion and to foster an environment in which our community can have challenging conversations in a safe space. We commit to:

  • developing an equity, diversity, and inclusion committee;
  • fostering a library culture of acceptance and openness;
  • hiring diverse staff;
  • building collections that showcase all voices; and
  • presenting programs that address societal issues and encourage civic conversations.

The Warren-Newport Public Library is committed to doing our part to help end the systemic racism that plagues our nation. We welcome community members to stand with us to do the same.

If you would like to delve deeper into the issues of race and racism in America, our librarians have put together lists of resources for adults and for children to help you navigate the topics from different perspectives and for different reading levels.
