Youth Services Reference Assistant (12 hours per week)

Job Title:Youth Services Reference Assistant
Classification:Grade 9
Rate of Pay:$14.25/hr
Immediate Supervisor:Head of Youth Services
Available Hours:This position averages 12 hours per week including Tuesday night 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Thursday night 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Two Saturdays per month 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Two Sundays per month 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM. (Sunday hours are from Labor Day to Memorial Day)

Outstanding applicants have prior knowledge of juvenile literature and availability to fill in other shifts when needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associates’ degree or two years of college..

  • Well-developed oral communication skills.

  • Experience working with youth.

  • Basic understanding of library resources.

  • Basic understanding of computer software.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assists youth and adults in the selection, organization, and interpretation of library materials.

  • Instructs library users in the use of online services, catalogs and reference tools.

  • Places local holds, initiates system level interlibrary loan transactions, registers patrons for programs and performs other service desk functions.

  • Reviews books, journals & online resources to maintain awareness of new materials.

  • Troubleshoots minor problems with equipment (computers, copiers, etc.)

  • Attends and participates in staff, department and other job-related meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Interlibrary Loan Associate (29 hours per week)

Job Title:Interlibrary Loan Associate
Classifcation:Grade 9
Rate of Pay:$14.25 per hour
Immediate Supervisor:Head of Technical Services and Interlibrary Loan
Available Hours:Part-Time - 29 hours per week Mon.-Fri. (daytime hours-some flexibility)

Education and Experience Required:

  • Associate's degree or two years of college or university coursework.

  • Two or more years of library-related experience may be substituted for academic requirement,

  • Experience and demonstrable skill in bibliographic searching of online databases.

  • Knowledge of the MARC format for bibliographic data.

  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Responsibilities:

  • Manages ILL requests for borrowing and lending through OCLC ILLiad, choosing appropriate lending libraries. Searches alternative databases for possible lending libraries when titles are not available through OCLC.

  • Accepts and sends requests electronically by mail or by fax.

  • Maintains records of all transactions for both borrowing and lending activities.

  • Performs circulation functions such as checkouts, checkins, oerdues and invoices in ILLiad and ILS.

  • Compiles required statistics for interlibrary loan and reports as needed.

  • Completes all required communication regarding requests with libraries, patrons and staff in a timely manner.

  • Processes outgoing and incoming ILL titles according to local, state and national interlibrary loan code.

  • Handles specialized requests: ALA requests, direct loans, book discussion group requests, and foreign language standing orders to be input manually into ILLIad.

  • Sorts and delivers incoming faxes.

  • Writes local interlibrary loan procedures.

  • Maintains current custom holding paths in OCLC.

  • Maintains cooperative working relationship with ILL departments in other libraries and systems.

  • Attends and participates in staff, department, and other job-related meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Adult Services Associate (14 hours per week)

Job Title:Adult Services Associate
Classification:Grade 10
Rate of Pay:$16.50 per hour
Immediate Supervisor:Head of Adult Services
Available Hours:14 hours per week (Monday from 5:00PM-9:00PM, Tuesday from 5:00PM-9:00PM; Wednesday from 9:00AM-1:00PM, and an average of one weekend per month.)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree, LTA, or Associate's degree. Previous library experience preferred.

  • Comfortable using technology, including computers, various e-devices, Microsoft Office products and the internet

  • Excellent public service skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication,and organizational skills, including the ability to function positively and effectively as a team member.

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist library users in the selection, organization, and interpretation of library materials, provide reference and reader's advisory services to library patrons of all ages.

  2. Teach public to use WNPL print, internet, and other electronic resources, and technology equipment.

  3. Place holds and initiate interlibrary loan requests.

  4. Troubleshoot minor problems of equipment (computers, copiers, etc.).

  5. Other duties as assigned.
