Job Vacancy Notice - Security Monitor

Job Title:Security Monitor
Classification:Grade 7
Rate of Pay:$11.11/hour
Immediate Supervisor:Security Supervisor
Hours:14.25 Hours per Week: Monday 4:00p.m.-9:00p.m.; Wednesday 4:00p.m-9:00p.m. alternating Saturdays 9:00a.m.-5:15p.m. Alternating Sundays 1:00p.m.-5:15p.m. (Sunday hours are from Labor Day-Memorial Day)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Customer service and/or security background preferred. High school graduate.

  • Proven experience working with children, young adults and adults.
  • Well developed oral communication skills and good customer service skills a plus.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve sensitive public relation matters with limited supervision.
Responsibilities:

  • Regularly patrols all public areas and library grounds. Observes activities and notes potential problem areas.

  • Enforces the library’s standards of public conduct. Advises supervisor or person-in-charge regarding action taken.

  • Serves as first contact for police if there is an emergency/problem that warrants being called.

  • Communicates/documents serious or repeated violations of behavior policy by individuals, and any other serious incidents or problems. Issues violations of standards tickets and bans individuals for a specific amount of time – attempts to get photo of banned individual.

  • Checks in registered meeting room users; monitors rooms and enforces meeting room policy.

  • Assists Facilities staff with meeting room setups.

  • Assumes responsibility for closing and securing library building.

  • Performs emergency maintenance tasks (i.e., snow removal, restroom cleaning, etc.).

  • Tidies public areas: returning chairs to tables, placing books on carts, picking up litter, etc.

  • Attends and participates in staff, department and other job-related meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Available Hours:This position averages 10.25 hours per week including Monday 5:00p.m.-9:15p.m., Thursday 9:00am-1:00pm, and one weekend per month.
Sunday hours are from Labor Day-Memorial Day

As a Part-Time Circulation Clerk, you'll be responsible for:

  • Graciously welcoming and directing patrons to library resources.

  • Checking in and out library materials.

  • Issuing library cards and maintaining patron accounts.

  • Collecting fines and fees using a point-of-sale system.

  • Ensuring patron privacy and confidentiality.

  • Identifying and resolving patron concerns as relatied to circulation functions.

  • Answering and routing incoming telephone calls.

  • Other duties as assigned.
