Job Vacancy Notice - Part-Time Youth Services Associate

Job Title:Part-Time Youth Services Associate
Classification:Grade 10
Rate of Pay:$16.50 per hour
Immediate Supervisor:Head of Youth Services
Available Hours:27 hours per week: Monday 1:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.; Wednesday: 1:00p.m.-9:00p.m.; Friday: 10a.m.-6:00p.m. Two Saturdays per month 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Two Sundays per month 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Sunday hours are from Labor Day through Memorial Day

Consider joining our energetic team as an Associate for Teen Services! If you have experience with, and appreciation for, working with teens, we have a great opportunity for you, creating programs and events that will draw, entertain, and educate area teens. Experience preferred. Qualified applicants have prior knowledge of teen literature, and availability to fill in other shifts as needed. Top priorities are an enjoyment of interactions with people of all ages, and a passion for promoting library materials and services.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree, LTA, bachelor's Degree, or two years of college or university work.

  • Well developed oral communication skills (written and oral).

  • Knowledge of library resources.

  • Experience working with youth.

  • Familiarity with library automation.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements programs and activities for a specific age group (babies, teens, etc.).

  • Keeps current on professional issues pertaining to a specific age group (babies, teens, etc.) and makes recommendations on how best to serve them.

  • Visits schools and other organizations for special presentations.

  • Assists youth and adults in the selection, organization, and interpretation of library materials. Refers complex reference or library policy questions to senior staff.

  • Instructs library users in the use of online services, catalogs and reference tools.

  • Places local holds, initiates system level interlibrary loan transactions, registers patrons for programs, reserves meeting rooms for patrons and performs other service desk functions.

  • Troubleshoots minor problems of equipment (computers, copiers, etc.).

  • Selects and/or advises on acquisition of library materials.

  • Participates in conducting evaluations of youth collections, programs and services.

  • Attends and participates in staff, department and other job related meetings.

  • Participates in library committees and project teams.
