Part-Time Library Shelver (2 Positions)

Rate of Pay:$8.85 an Hour
Available Hours:Position #1 - Averages 14 hours per week including Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 5-9PM and two Saturdays per month 1-5PM

Position #2 - Averages 18 hours per week including Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9AM-1PM, Friday 2-6PM and two Saturdays per month 1-5PM.
Sunday hours are from Labor Day - Memorial Day.

Qualifications:Help us put our best foot forward! The Warren-Newport Public Library, a Chicago Tribune Top Workplace, is looking for a Part-Time shelver who:

  • Prefers to keep moving rather than sit at a desk (full range of body motion and ability to push/pull wheeled cart with up to 100 lbs, of library material required)

  • Understands the importance of getting the little things right

  • Thrives in a collaborative, team-oriented environment

  • Is able to exercise sound judgment while working independently

  • Enjoys learning and embracing change

  • Is skilled at communicating both verbally and in writing

  • Has a working knowledge of basic computer programs and office equipment

  • Can work a flexible schedule (days, evenings, and weekends) as needed

  • Possesses a high school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities:As a Part-Time Shelver, you'll be responsible for:

  • Graciously welcoming and directing patrons to library resources

  • Using the automated conveyor system to check in and sort materials,

  • Checking the contents and physical condition of returned materials

  • Sorting and shelving materials in numerical and alphabetical order

  • Retrieving materials from indoor and outdoor book returns

  • Maintaining the order and appearance of library collections
