Position #1:Averages 12 hours per week:

  • Tuesday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • Friday 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • Two weekends per month. Weekend hours are Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., and Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Position #2:Averages 14 hours per week:

Qualifications

Security Monitor-Substitute

Job Title:Security Monitor-Substitute
Hours:One Saturday per month from 9:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.; one Sunday per month from 1:00p.m. to 5:15p.m. Weekday morning or evening substitute shifts (Sunday hours are from Labor Day to Memorial Day)
Salary:$11.50/hour
Warren-Newport Public Library is seeking a Substitute Security Monitor to join our team. The ideal candidate has excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain and foster positive working relationships with library patrons and staff. The Substitute Security Monitor will be given advanced notice of scheduling; this is not an on-call position. Morning and Evening Shifts will be intermittent/as needed basis.
Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provide a proactive customer service presence by greeting library patrons in a professional and friendly manner; directs patrons to library areas.

  • Regularly patrols all public areas and library grounds. Observes and notes potential safety or security problem areas.

  • Observe patron behavior and address problems as needed according to library policies.

  • Responds to and de-escalates tense situations in a professional and calm manner; collaborate with library staff as needed.

  • Serves as contact for first responders (police, ambulance) in emergency situations.

  • Communicates and documents serious or repeated violations of behavior policy by library patrons. Completes accurate incident reports.

  • Issues violations of library standard tickets to patrons, including suspensions and permanent bans.

  • Check in registered meeting room users; monitors rooms and enforces meeting room policy.

  • Assumes responsibility for closing and securing the library building.

  • Performs emergency maintenance tasks (i.e., snow removal, restroom cleaning, etc.).

  • Tidies public areas: returning chairs to tables, placing books on carts, picking up litter, etc.

  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Abilities Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Previous security experience preferred.

  • Excellent interpersonal service skills; well-developed oral communication with ability to interact with a diverse population including children, teens and adults.

  • Requires a full range of body motion including standing, sitting and walking for extended periods of time; bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting materials weighing up to 40 lbs.

Position Description:Warren-Newport Public Library is seeking an energetic, fun-loving and flexible individual to join our Youth Department as a Youth Services Reference Assistant. If you enjoy helping people, especially children and teens, promoting reading and providing top-notch customer service, we have the perfect position for you. Outstanding candidates should have prior knowledge of juvenile literature, a desire to share the magic and power of books and availability to fill in other shifts when needed.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree or two years of college.

  • Well developed oral communication skills.

  • Experience working with youth.

  • Basic understanding of library resources.

  • Basic understanding of computer software.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Assists youth and adults in the selection of library materials

  • Instructs library users in the use of online resources

  • Places local holds, initiates system level interlibrary loan transactions, registers patrons for programs and performs other service desk functions

  • Reviews books , journals and online resources to maintain awareness of new materials

  • Troubleshoots minor problems with equipment (computers, copies, etc.)

  • Attends and participates in staff, department and other job-related meetings when possible

Graphic Artist - 19 hours per week

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Designs and creates logos, posters, signs, flyers, brochures and other printed and digital promotional materials that generate a positive public appeal to the library. Write basic promotional copy.

  • Assists in the layout, design and production of the library newsletter under the direction of the Head of Communications.

  • Assists in implementing library displays and bulletin boards.

  • Produces quality photographs of library events and programs, staff and visitors and documents building changes/upgrades.

  • Assists staff in other departments with promotional ideas for library programs and special events.

  • Formulates bid specifications for the purchase of outside printing and production of printed and promotional materials and negotiates with vendors.

  • Provides library wide decoration and interior design support.

  • Coordinates duplicating and collating materials, utilizing volunteers whenever possible.

  • Assists in maintaining department supplies inventory.

  • Completes special projects within the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5 years’ experience in graphic design.

  • Able to write basic promotional copy.

  • Effectively communicate in English, both orally and written. Bilingual a plus, but not required.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use desktop publishing, photo video editing, and related software including Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator, Acrobat and Spark.

  • Familiar with social media and content management systems, such as WordPress.

  • Basic computer skills in MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook and a working knowledge of office equipment.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment while working independently and in a collaborative team environment.

  • Basic knowledge of pre-press production.

  • Knowledge of SLR and mobile device digital photography.

  • Portfolio of original work required; online portfolio preferred.
